Weirdest green business ideas - part 1

Each time when I search for some interesting business ideas for my blog I stumble upon trully bizarre ones. I'm not sure if they can become a base for your small business, but it definitely can be an inspiration you need to invent your own green business concept. Idea #1 – Blood Lamp The average American consumes 3383kwh of energy per year. That's equivalent to leaving the light on in 4 rooms for a whole year. And what if power came at a cost to the individual? For the lamp to work one breaks the top off, dissolves the powder, and uses their own blood to power a simple light. By creating a lamp that can only be used once, the user must consider when light is needed the most, forcing them to rethink how wasteful they are with energy, and how precious it is. Idea #2 – White Goat A machine from the Oriental, Co. Ltd. that will convert office paper into toilet paper. It takes 30 minutes and 40 sheets of A4 office paper to create one roll of toilet paper, and White Goat claims to be able to save 60 cedar trees annually. The $100,000 machine is set to go on sale sometime this spring. Idea #3 – Pencil Printer Instead of throwing away your pencil stubs, you could always feed them to this concept printer, which will then convert the pencil into "ink" for your document printing needs. It supposedly works by separating the wood and lead inside the printer, which can then be used to print your document. Idea #4 – 3D Food Printer 3D food printer is designed and being further developed in America by cornell university's computational synthesis laboratory. It doesn't look like a traditional printer; it's more like an industrial fabrication machine. Users load up the printer's syringes with raw food -- anything with a liquid consistency, like soft chocolate, will work. The ingredient-filled syringes will then "print" icing on a cupcake. Or it'll print something more novel (i.e., terrifying) -- like domes of turkey on a cutting board.

Success story - self-publishing millionaire

There's a section "Success stories" on my blog that I haven't been updating for quiet awhile as there are not so many interesting stories of commercial success to tell. Well, today I've found one that really deserves attention. I wonder why I didn't hear about this successful business before, but anyway, it's better to post the story late, then to don't post it at all. Amanda Hocking, the 26-year-old from Minnesota is a self-publishing star, who sold almost a million electronic copies of her paranormal romance books and earned close to $2 million. Ms. Hocking began self-publishing her books, urban fantasy novels, last year, selling them through online retailers like Amazon.com and BN.com for $2.99 or $0.99. Hocking's popularity in the Internet got enormous and transformed her into a spokeswoman for the practice of self-publishing, which allows authors to sell their books directly to readers without the help of a traditional publisher. But becoming is symbol of self-publishing authors is not the only advantage she got from getting famous. The other good news is that Amanda signed a contract for a four-book series to traditional publishers and now she'll finally have a possibility to be just a writer and don't waist efforts and time for promotion and editing. Ms. Hocking's story once again proved that if you have a goal in life (to become a writer, for example), don't sit and wait for fate to provide a chance. Just start doing something, search for opportunities, try out different strategies and your success will find you soon!

Successful online business - gambling on grades

Online gambling business is among the most profitable businesses worldwide. Yet in some countries online gambling is illegal so you have to think of something unusual to earn money this way. Jeremy Gelbart and Steven Wolf from US have step out with a very interesting online business idea that involves gambling, but at the same time doesn't go contrary to the law. Ultrinsic is a website that allows college students to gamble on their grades in a course or a semester. The name of the site means ULTerior motivation that produces intRINSIC love of knowledge. In other words site is focused on providing motivation to perform well academically. the service uses an algorithm that takes into account current work load, course history and, when available, the difficulty of a specific course. Ultrinsic calculates the odds on your academic career, and allows you to make wagers for cash rewards. For example, if Ultrinsic thinks that the odds are two to one against you getting an A in Modern English Grammar, and you decide to wager $50, an A will net you $100 on top of the $50 you originally risked. You can also buy "grade insurance," which pays cash if you fail a class. Betting on grades is currently available for students in 36 US colleges, but founder of Ultrinsic plan to expand. Innovative approach and creative thinking always pays off so I'm pretty sure that in time we'll hear about Ultrinsic more and more.

Unusual home business idea - bacon scented candles

Homemade scented candles is among most popular women business ideas. Yet today I've found out that this traditional small business can be much more interesting and much more innovative then I could imagine! A 13-year-old Hart Main from ohio started his own scented candle business. And not just any floral or fruity aroma. His line is called Man Cans and candles smells as bacon, pizza or leather baseball mitt. "I created ManCans when my sister was selling candles for school and I realized how much I hated those girly scents," Main says. Hart makes the candles in his kitchen from empty soup cans (he donated the soup to a soup kitchen). The brown wrapper is made of recycled paper. This unique business idea shows how easily you can succeed by combining two most popular business trends for 2011 – "go green" and "ordinary thing, extraordinary approach".

Bizarre business idea - Nude Therapist

Any company and any business idea faces difficulties when trying to enter established, already divided market. The only way to make this start easier is to find an interesting business niche that will help you to stand out of the crowd. Take Sarah White, a 24-year-old American, who started a unique business in online psychology consulting business. Sarah White studied psychology as an undergraduate and was "uninspired" by modern approach. Taking matters into her own hands, she launched her website, The Naked Therapist. Sarah conducts $150 Skype "therapy" sessions: while her clients talk it out, she slowly takes her clothes off. "Instead of cold, objective, impersonal attitude of traditional therapists, find me, if I am with nothing to hide." – that's how Sarah explains her position. I really doubt that such sessions may resolve one's psychological problems as, in fact, that's just a kind of unusual striptease, maybe even a role play. Yet Sarah should be called a very successful business woman: she has found her own business niche, attracted massive internet communities' attention, received a lot of free advertising and ended up with quiet a profitable small business. What can I say? Bravo!

Green business idea for 2011 - cab 4 one

It's hard to imagine big city life without taxis. In some cities, like NY (US) or London (UK) they have even become a certain symbols, some sort of tourist attraction. But, unfortunately, this convenient and essential service is far from being environmental friendly… According to statistics taxis spend much of their time carrying just one passenger yet carbon emission is quiet serious. Taking into account that green business ideas are getting more and more popular, there should appear an alternative. And now there is. British company Cab 4 One now offers taxi service by Smart Four Two Passion Cdi - the "greenest" conventionally powered car on British roads. It has low fuel consumption and tiny carbon dioxide emissions what makes Cab 4 One very truly environmental friendly taxi. A lot of eco businesses appear in Europe and US each month, but to me Cab 4 One seems the best green business idea for 2011: simple to realize, socially responsible, profitable and it really helps in a never-ending fight with pollution.
